What happened to the leaders of opposed political parties, to give up their own visions, programs, even party line, to form the unlikely Coalition, without which Canada would not have been created? What were the major causes and who were the key actors that led to the Birth of the second largest country in the world : “almost a quarter of the Earth” ? Events, visions, approaches, compromise, collaboration, contain lessons for the present time and future. The leaders, John Alexander Macdonald, George-Étienne Cartier, George Brown and his wife Anne Nelson Brown, Alexander Tilloch Galt, all played a remarkable historical role. The participants and their communications are particularly interesting to consider, as they explain what Canadians have become. To compare the processes involved in the making of USA and Canada is also significative.
